West End Avenue Apartment 3
This full-scale architectural renovation combined two adjacent apartments within a prewar building in the Upper West Side Historic District into a seamless three-bedroom, three-bathroom residence. Providing both architecture and interior design services, our scope encompassed planning, regulatory coordination, infrastructure overhaul, and the complete interior build-out.
A central challenge was reconciling contemporary living with the integrity of the prewar envelope. Where original details remained, they were carefully preserved; where they had been lost, they were thoughtfully recreated. New herringbone oak floors were installed to match the scale and character of the period, and moldings were restored and extended to unify the combined footprint. These elements establish continuity with the building’s history while allowing the reimagined layout to feel authentic rather than imposed.
The plan was comprehensively reconfigured, including the conversion of a former kitchen into a generous primary bathroom. All major systems were replaced—new electrical service, updated plumbing distribution, and fully integrated central air conditioning—woven discreetly into the architecture to maintain ceiling heights and proportion.
Custom millwork throughout provides architectural clarity and tailored storage, bridging prewar formality with a restrained, contemporary aesthetic. The result is a residence that feels both rooted and current—demonstrating our ability to manage complexity and deliver rigorous, full-scope renovations for discerning homeowners.
